The 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S, a new electric SUV, boasts 600 horsepower and a claimed 300-mile range. Initially available as a Launch Edition model starting at $71,995, it features a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive powertrain. Future versions of the Wagoneer S are expected, including a Trailhawk off-road trim and a possible gas-powered variant with Stellantis’s inline-six engine.
Smaller than the Grand Cherokee, the Wagoneer S offers a lower and sleeker profile, positioning itself as a premium entry in Jeep’s lineup. It aims to compete with luxury electric SUVs like the Tesla Model Y, Cadillac Lyriq, and Genesis Electrified GV70. Design elements include a seven-slot grille with lighting instead of air intakes and a spoiler at the rear, contributing to its 0.29 drag coefficient.
Inside, the Wagoneer S mirrors the Grand Wagoneer’s look, featuring a two-spoke steering wheel, wall-to-wall screens, and a McIntosh audio system. The Launch Edition comes fully loaded with heated and cooled seats, a head-up display, and a comprehensive suite of driver-assist systems. Options include a red leather interior and a towing package with a 3400-pound capacity.
The 600-hp powertrain enables the Wagoneer S to hit 60 mph in 3.4 seconds. Jeep anticipates additional lower-output electric variants in the future. There’s also potential for a version powered by the Hurricane inline-six, leveraging the STLA Large platform’s capability to support internal combustion engines.
Jeep claims the Wagoneer S can achieve over 300 miles on a single charge, although EPA estimates are pending. The battery is said to have a capacity of 100.5 kWh, with a usable capacity likely around 93.9 kWh. On a DC fast-charger, it can go from 20% to 80% in 23 minutes.
Despite its low stance and limited ground clearance, a rugged Wagoneer S Trailhawk concept is in the works, hinting at an off-road capable version. Reservations for the $71,995 Launch Edition open tomorrow, with deliveries starting later this year. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new model.
